Totals

Current research credits Herring with sinking ships, totaling tons.

JANAC credits Herring with 6 ships sunk totalling 19,959 tons. Note that the criteria JANAC used included all Japanese Naval vessels (although JANAC did not usually count warships less than 500 tons that were converted from merchant ships) and all Japanese merchant vessels of 500 or more gross tons known or believed to have been lost during the war. Differences between JANAC figures and current research are noted above.

Alden-McDonald credit Herring with ships and tons sunk.

SORG credits Herring with ships and tons sunk.

Wrecksite credits Herring with ships and tons sunk.

*Some sources list the German U-163 as sunk by Herring on March 21, 1943, but analysis shows that the U-Boat was operating in a different area, and was sunk instead by the Royal Canadian Navy corvette HMCS Prescott on March 13, 1943.
