USS Lagarto - Plaque placed on the wreck by Navy divers

Patrol 1

7 Feb 1945- 20 Mar 1945

第八事代丸 Kotoshiro Maru No. 8 - Small vessel not credited to Lagarto in JANAC.

第三号昭和丸 Showa Maru No. 3 - Small vessel not credited to Lagarto in JANAC

伊371 I-371 Not confirmed in Alden, but is credited to Lagarto in other sources including the NHHC page on Japanese Submarine Casualties and the I-371 page on combinedfleet.com, although not without some doubt. Note that JANAC credits Lagarto with sinking the submarine Ro-49, not I-371. However, Ro-49 was still sending situation reports as late as 25 March 1945, and was most likely sunk by USS Hudson (DD-475) on 5 April 1945.

辰桃丸 Tatsumomo Maru

Patrol 2

12 Apr 1945- 4 May 1945 (Lost)

No sinkings

Note that JANAC credits Lagarto with sinking 北辰丸 Hokushin Maru on 30 June 1945, which was after Lagarto was lost.

Totals

4 ships, 2,505 tons (2 were small vessels often not included in sinkings), including I-371, but not including Ro-49 and Hokushin Maru.

JANAC - 3 ships, 7,664 tons, including Ro-49 (not I-371) and Hokushin Maru. Note that the criteria JANAC used included all Japanese Naval vessels (although JANAC did not usually count warships less than 500 tons that were converted from merchant ships) and all Japanese merchant vessels of 500 or more gross tons known or believed to have been lost during the war. Differences between JANAC figures and current research are noted above.

Alden-McDonald credit Lagarto with 3 ships and 1,065 tons sunk.

SORG credits Lagarto with 1 ship and 700 tons sunk.
