 USS

USS Torsk (SS-423) is on display at Historic Ships in Baltimore, Baltimore, MD

Patrol 1

16 Apr 1945- 16 Jun 1945

No sinkings

Patrol 2

17 Jul 1945- 9 Sep 1945

旭川丸 Asahikawa Maru - listed as "Unidentified Vessel" in Alden. Torsk's patrol report says this ship, described as a small freighter, was seen to sink. There were survivors in the water, and photos were taken. Not credited to Torsk in JANAC, although Alden lists the sinking as probable. Japanese sources show Ashaikawa Maru as being sunk by torpedo on the same day in the same location.

快豊丸 Kaiho Maru

第47号海防艦 Coast Defense Vessel No. 47 (CD-47)

第13号海防艦 Coast Defense Vessel No. 13 (CD-13)

Totals

4 ships, 2,869 tons, including Asahikawa Maru, unidentified in Alden and not credited to Torsk in JANAC

JANAC - 3 ships, 2,473 tons. Note that the criteria JANAC used included all Japanese Naval vessels (although JANAC did not usually count warships less than 500 tons that were converted from merchant ships) and all Japanese merchant vessels of 500 or more gross tons known or believed to have been lost during the war. Differences between JANAC figures and current research are noted above.

Alden-McDonald credit Torsk with 4 ships and 2,506 tons sunk, including one unidentified vessel of unknown tonnage.

SORG credits with 4 ships and 6,000 tons sunk.
