Circumstances On June 21, 1944, Nikkin Maru  departed Moji, Japan, en route to Woosung.  On June 30th, in position 35.05N 125.00E, about 120km W of Moppo (Mokpo), Chosen (Korea), the ship was torpedoed.  At 02:05 a.m., the ship broke in two amidships and sank. 
Number of Men Lost 69 crew members and 3,150 military personnel; the total of 3,219 people lost is one of the largest maritime disasters of the War in the Pacific.
