Circumstances Sunk by torpedo 3/6/44 at 1000 departed Singapore en route to Moji. 24/6/44 at 2354 in position 32.24N 129.38E about 20km SW of Nomozaki torpedoed and sunk. 764 passengers [actually 772 POW’s], 2 armed guards and 33 crew killed.
Sunk by USS Tang. 560 of the POW’s on board killed including 80 sleeping on a hatch cover directly above a torpedo hit. The survivors were picked up by an ex whale chaser and taken to Nagasaki.
Number of Men Lost 33 crew members, 2 military personnel, and 560 Allied Prisoners of War were killed in the sinking.
